The
animal is prohibited in 'Tsum Valley' in Tsumanubri Rural Municipality of
Gorkha District. Tsum Valley is a valley with very ancient Buddhist culture in
the east-north region of the Gorkha district. The specific meaning of the word
Tsum is 'East.' It is also known as the zone of non-violence. Tsumanubri rural
municipality of Gorkha-6 Chumchet and 7 Chekampar, two wards are collectively
called Tsum Valley. In the Tsum Valley Trek where there are about 800
households, Sacrifice has never happened.
Chekampar
was declared a non-violence zone in 1977 and Chumchet in 2069. Locals have
promised not to do five acts of violence within the area by holding a
non-violence (Syakya) festival in the village and designating four forts. They
have promised not to kill any animal, not to hunt, not to collect honey, not to
set fires, not to enter animals and birds for the purpose of meat within the
zone of non-violence.
Likewise,
even after becoming too old to work, there is a commitment not to kill any
animal or sell it to a person who eats meat and not to kill a cow calf. Even
the policemen who live in the police station of this village, which is bordered
by China, are not allowed to shoot. Even hundreds of foreign tourists visiting
Tsum valley cannot eat meat because all the hotels are vegetarian only.
The
Government of Nepal has selected Chumbally in Gorkha district among the 100 new
tourist destinations identified by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil
Aviation. While preparing to celebrate the year 2020 as the Year of Visit
Nepal, the government chose Chumbhali.
Religious and Cultural Significance
There
are no killed in the Tsum Valley. This valley is a zone of non-violence.
Wildlife can also be seen in abundance. So this valley feels like an open
museum. As proof that the Chum Valley has been a region of non-violence for
many years, in Bikram Samvat 1977, Mahaguru Guru Avatar Dukpa Lama Serab Dorje
promised to follow the tradition of non-violence in the year 1977. A
handwritten document in which the kissers made a commitment is still preserved.
There are more than 700 years old monasteries here. Peaceful customs and
culture, ancient Mani, Kani, Chyorten, Chaitya, memorials, and Tibetan culture
related to Buddhism are of special importance here.
Even
the guru of Buddhism has explained that area as the 'Hidden Side', i.e. a
strange place that is hidden, and identified it as the safest place of refuge
when there is a crisis in Buddhism.
Historical and mythological beliefs
There
are many Buddhist monks and nuns here. In this area, the world's oldest Defu
Dolma nunnery (Ani) monastery is located. It is said to have been established
about 820 years ago. Around five hundred nuns lived in the monastery during its
establishment. There they also studied Buddhism along with daily worship
lessons. Similarly, Mu Monastery (Monks), Rachen Ani (Nuns) Monastery, Milarepa
Cave, and other monasteries are also found in this area. This valley is
surrounded by natural beauty Ganesh Himal 1, 2,3,4,5, Buddhist Himal, and Shringi
Himal. This is also a suitable area for the view of these mountains. The

Biodiversity of Tsum Valley Trek
In
the forest of that area, animals like Jharal, Ghoral, Musk Deer, Kalij, Damphe
and Monal, and Fya (known as Rat in the local language), Langur Monkey are found in
abundance. Also known as an open zoo, Jharal Naur Kasturi grazes around the
house.
Wild
animals are also playing with humans. This area is also known as an open zoo
which falls within the Manaslu Conservation Area. Locals here rear animals only
for milk, curd, ghee, and curd. They do not sell their reared animals to
others.
Tourism Promotion on Tsum Valley Trekking
Tsum
Valley is a tourist area that has received little publicity in Nepal but is
highly publicized among tourists around the world. This area has been known to
the world as an animal cruelty-free area since Vikram Samvat in 1977. It has
been 94 years since the region was declared a non-violence zone. It is believed
that animals and birds have not been killed in that area for the past century.
But due to a lack of publicity, Tsum Valley has faded into obscurity. As well
the Manaslu Circuit Trek is the
best hiking zone in the west-southern part of Nepal.
